Easts is a club that is committed to the development and promotion of junior girl’s rugby with a focus on the appreciation and passion for the game. Since the success of our National Women’s 7s team at the 2016 Rio Olympics, the demand for rugby union for girls has increasingly grown, prompting the initiation of our first all girls teams in 2019.
The Junior girls compete in Sydney Junior Rugby Union 7s competitions, the smaller adaptation of the game allows for increased participation and development throughout trainings and competition games. The Rugby 7s games allow for all girls to be able to participate and contribute in unique ways on the field whilst providing a genuine direct pathway to state and national representation.
The start of 2019 saw nine girls register to play their rugby at Easts, however following the increased promotion and recruitment drive from our original nine girls our squad finished the season with 31 registered players in the U15s and U17s age group combined. The aim is to have a fully fledged girls program aged from 12 to 18, competing in the SJRU competitions and other invitational competitions around NSW and Australia.
It is essential that players are able to commit to playing matches on Saturdays. Should any child be unable, or unwilling, to attend matches on a Saturday on a regular basis the club retains the right to either cancel their membership or take any other action that ensures fairness and respect for all other members of the club.
Players will play in the age group bracket that matches the age they are on 1 January.
In junior girls rugby for 2021 they are playing in even number age brackets.
Should a player wish to play up an age group bracket consideration will be given to both the physical and psychological aspects of such a move and the Club will use the guidelines of the ARU Pathway for weight, age and ability. Similar rules apply for a player wishing to play down an age group based on size and/or weight will need to go through the consideration and dispensation process by NSWJRU.
